JACOB SEXTON (he/him)

is an NYC-based theatre director, dramaturg and playwright from Kentucky. 

 

New play direction includes Evie Mason's Echo, In a Diner, Tre Calhoun's
If You Like Me at My Worst + Jacob Sexton's Hurricane (Columbia MFA),
Blake Sugarman's Prelude to the Apocalypse (La MaMa ETC) and Scream of the Butterfly (The Brick), Edward Precht's Salamander (Primary Stages MFA), Gracie Gardner's We Are All God's Children and He Left Us in a Hot Car + Will Snider’s Self Esteem (EST/Youngblood), David Jackson’s Panoramania (FringeNYC), Kate Mickere’s Mod Party + Cory Finley’s sunk (A/I Company, Actors Theatre of Louisville).
He has also directed plays by Gregory S Moss, Samuel Beckett, Young Jean Lee, Will Eno, Martin McDonough, Alan Bennett, and Bert V Royal. Upcoming: Evie Mason's This Hair I Tear is Mine (Columbia)


Workshops: Keiko Green's Hometown Boy, Arika Larson's Visiting Hours, Fiona Gorry-Hines' Bug in Mouth Disease, Edward Precht's Down South,
Kari Barclay's Can I Hold You, Rick Ehrstin's Comet Town, and Cory Finley's On the Ice. Jacob is passionate about new play development.

 

Jacob has assisted Anne Bogart, Les Waters, Michael Mayer, Jon Jory,
Lila Neugebauer, Gia Forakis, and Moritz Von Stulpenagel. He toured with
SITI Company, assisting on Julia Wolfe's Steel Hammer which culminated at the BAM Next Wave Festival. Most
recently, he assisted on the Avett Brother's musical Swept Away at Berkeley Rep. Jacob also spent a season as Clubbed Thumb's workshop assistant, helping with all new play development including SuperLabs with Playwrights Horizons, observing directors Chay Yew, Leigh Silverman, Oliver Butler, Will Davis, and Carolyn Cantor, among others.

 

Currently pursuing MFA in Theatre Directing at Columbia University's School of the Arts (2022). Alumni of the Professional Training Company at Actors Theatre of Louisville. BA: Fordham University at Lincoln Center.
